What actually matters here
For jewellery the honest question is what the metal actually is. A '925' stamp proves nothing on its own — plenty of stamped brass circulates. The useful evidence is weight: ask the seller for the piece's weight in grams and compare against the real item's published spec.
For plated pieces, assume the plating is thin unless the listing says otherwise. Edges and high-contact points wear first, often within weeks. That is a fair trade at these prices, but it should be a decision rather than a surprise.
QC checklist — what to ask for before it ships
- Weight in grams from the seller — the only real metal evidence
- Stamp location and depth (a stamp alone proves nothing)
- Clasp action and finish
- Chain link uniformity at zoom
- Stone setting: prongs even, no glue visible
